Ms. Schweitzer is a recognized expert and pioneer in the healthcare industry, focusing professionally on revenue cycle management for the past 35 years. She brings depth of experience as a C-level executive, investor, and advisor, to her board position at PatientMatters, the company she founded in 2012.
In 2004, she was elected Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of CareMedic, an HCIT revenue cycle management company, having formerly served as its President and Chief Operating Officer. Previously, she was Executive Vice President and COO of MedUnite Inc., a consortium of insurance/managed care companies that created a health data exchange. Prior to her work with MedUnite, she was CEO of Presideo, Inc., a biometric security platform for HCIT systems. She was also Senior Vice President of Operations with ENVOY Corporation, the nation's largest healthcare clearinghouse.
She has testified before the U.S. Congress and the Ministers of Health of the European Union on the topic of electronic transaction and claim processing. As an investor and executive, she has been involved in over 40 deals totaling $3 billion.
Sheila has also served on the boards of Aventura, the leading provider of awareness computing; Recondo Health; First Service Administrators, Inc.; and National Electronic Attachment, leading its sale to KKR. She was a founding member of the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI); served on the ANSI X12 committee; and participated in the development of the HIPAA legislation. She was Chairperson of the Association for Healthcare Electronic Transactions (AFEHCT) and of The Medical Banking Project, leading the mergers of both with HIMSS. She has also held advisory roles with Aetna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, and NDC Health.
She holds the Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.
